Hi, first time post, long time reader.....

Over the weekend i set up a win2k server file server with a 80gig windows drive and a 160 storage drive. Copied all my data to it and was just working on user permissions. Long story short i got a error saying directory is corrupt and then in event viewer it said the ntfs file structure is unstable. Is there any way to fix this drive or do i have to reformat it and recopy all the data...id prefer not to recopy all of it as its on about 20dvds.... and takes for ever....If you have any ideas please let me know asap as i need to do one or the other soon... There is a tool that might work called checkdisk (chkdsk). Open up your command prompt and type in chkdsk.

Chkdsk run without the "/r" switch does nothing! It must be run with the "/r" switch to fix and repair any damage. You must run it till it comes up clean with no errors. It may take several passes to accomplish this.

If it can't repair the damage... your HD may be toast...
