solfog Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I'd like to make a clean install of xp on my laptop, but my cd drive is not working anymore.I can copy the xp cd on my usb drive, and from my usb hard drive to my second partition, then I could format my c: and pray that it will install from the cd "image"(that is not an iso, but just the files and directories copied from the cd)What are the chances that it works?Won't the setup search for the cd in the cd drive? Is there another method?
aresgodofwar Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 you can install windows from a variety of places. network, cd, hard drive, etc. what you are proposing should work. is the second partition ntfs or fat?
solfog Posted December 20, 2004 Author Posted December 20, 2004 my second partition is FAT32 so I think it's ok
