nazz Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Weird problem. I cannot install Mcafee antivirus pro 8 or 9 after installing my unattended Windows XP. When I run the McAfee installer, it extracts like normal and starts the install. Then it stops immediatly with a page cannot be displayed IE window. I thought maybe it is a regtweak issue where I disabled some services, but turned the disabled services back on and the same thing happened.Anyone know what the problem could be?It is working now after I installed again without applying any regtweaks and post windows xp sp2 updates.Must check now which regtweaks caused the problem.I narrow down to 1 of these regtweaks is causing the problem;-------------------------------;Have the kernel run in RAM;-------------------------------;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management];"DisablePagingExecutive"=dword:00000001;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------;Prefetching the reading of system boot files into a cache for faster loading;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters];"EnablePrefetcher"=dword:00000003;---------------------------------------------------------------------------------;8.3 naming convention can degrade NTFS drive performance disable it;---------------------------------------------------------------------------------;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem];"NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation"=dword:00000001;---------------

doktorfeelgood Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Hi Nazz,VirusScan relies on ActiveX which means you must have Internet Explorer as your browser. With Service Pack 2 the most common things I see are: The popup blocker built into the IE browser. Any other popup blockers or toolbars like google, yahoo, adaware SE full version, ets. Also your winsock could be corrupt. What I do sometimes is open my Browser and go to the mcafee website. http://us.mcafee.com . Click Home Users . Log into your account if you have one. Then try the install. I had this problem once due to IE being messed up. For some reason it wouldn't launch the process in the background. Here is an FAQ from our website on that topic. What should I do if I get a blank page when installing or updating?Summary: These steps also apply if the download freezes or 'page cannot be displayed' appears when installing or updating. This occurs if your Internet cache is full, your Internet connection is slow or intermittent, or your browser isn't configured properly.Step 1: Remove Temporary Internet Files (Cache)Step 2: Configure Browser Security Settings Step 3: Configure Internet Explorer's Cookie Settings Configure Browser Cookie Settings Internet Explorer 6.x From the taskbar, click Start, then Run. Enter the following: inetcpl.cplClick the Privacy tab. If the slider isn't set to Medium, click Default. Click Edit. The Per Site Privacy Actions window appears. Under 'Managed Web sites', look for a mcafee domain (e.g. www.mcafee.com or bin.mcafee.com). If a mcafee domain appears, right-click on it and click Allow. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for all mcafee domains. Click OK. If available, click Apply. Click OK. Firewalls & Ad/Cookie Blocking SoftwareFirewalls or programs that block ads and cookies may prevent you from accessing and using our services. We suggest you disable these programs if you're unable to install or update. Let me know if you still have problems and we can try some other things.doug
