hal.dll missing or corrupt

Featured Replies

Got the following message tonight and have been unable to boot into XP Pro - "<windows root>\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupt" Tried booting from the XP disk but I do not have the repair function listed which most of the sites are telling me is the usual fix. Any ideas?

Running XP Pro with SP2

Cheers, Rob :realmad:

Try the following command in RC (Recovery Console) with your XP disk inserted:

expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

d = should be the letter of your CD drive.

Get the set up files from the Microsoft website and save them onto a floppy this will give you the option to get into RC.
