Connection System Tray Icon Missing! plz help

hi ppl:

I'm missing the Internet connection icon. i don't know what it is called exactly, but the the little 2 monitor icon that flashed when there is Internet activity. the icon is missing. and yes the "show icon in notification area..." is checked. i even deleted the account and made a new one but didn't help. please help .thank you
