I was taslking to HP and they told me to move it to my desktop so it would not be in the startup folder. So I was wondering what it is and now that it is on the desktop can I delete it?FOR your information : The fax window started appearing before I moved the desktop.ini out of startup folderAny suggestionsthanksmark
Jito463 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 A) Check your registry entries for the Fax installer....HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\(all Run keys)....HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\(all Run keys)B) You can safely delete the desktop.ini. It's used to store preferences for individual folders (layout, etc). Don't worry about it.*EDIT*Darn emoticons!
mkaone Posted September 16, 2004 Author Posted September 16, 2004 Hello, What do I do when I navigate to those registry entriesThanksmka
Jito463 Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Look for anything in the Run, RunServices, RunOnce, RunOnceEx, etc that could be calling the fax installer.
beatnik Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 You might want to try this in case you haven't solved your problem yet. Check the error message that pops up for location it is trying to install fax from and copy it. Go to Start, Run, and enter regedit. Select Find from the dropdown box in the Edit menu and paste in the location you copied. Find any registry keys that look like they are being used to install fax.MAKE SURE you set a restore point before you delete any keys.DON'T blame me if you have to reinstall your entire system if you do delete any keys.On that happy note, good luck getting rid of an annoying problem.

And Update Your Computer Hp Software. In The Hp Director. I Did Not Have The Desktop.ini So It Mite Be A Part Of Hp To. That Should Do The Job. You Should Try Anyway .
