Renaming the \documents and settings\username

neilo

Recommended Posts

Username on Windows XP Pro machine (with admin rights): Bill

Current name of directory: c:\documents and settings\Bill.032343-2341 (based on the Computer Name and NIC MAC address)

I want to change it to: c:\documents and settings\Bill

BUT

How to rename the directory quickly and easily without having to recreate all the user's settings or profile information is my question.

Any takers?

I have just gone to http://support.microsoft.com and searched for documents and settings in the knowledge base and found approx 25 articles on this.

The ones below look a good one to start with =>

An error message informs you that you cannot move or rename the Documents and Settings folder
