Home Proxy

Hello,

I was just reading the site and someone posted a topic about their own private proxy. Someone after that posted that it would help when they are at work and surfing. This got my mind racing and thinking.

At university (I live in the dorms) they block ports that a bunch of my favorite programs use. Now would it be possible to run a proxy at home (ie. not on campus) and then connect from my dorm to the proxy and use my programs?

If so, can anyone recommend some readings that I need to setup a proxy. The simplier the better
