prathapml Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 MS's document reads.......................That documentation is most probably instructions that apply to a slip-streamed XP SP2 install-source. I doubt if it will work with modifying it in the ServicePack files.Anyway, if you are going to install from CD, then you don't need the "/unattend" switch - just rename unattend.txt to "winnt.sif" and place it in I386 directory - and boot-up from the CD. I also saw that the "/unattend" switch has been replaced with "/u" switch - so its not really a problem.
Bandana8472 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Great info, neleus. Thanx. One last thing - how do you repackage SP2 once you've made the changes to Netfw.in_ (assuming you've "signed" it, etc...)? I've tried using iexpress.exe, but that doesn't like recompiling the multiple folders within the extracted i386 directory (created from the /extract command on SP2). I've also investigated using WinZip (v9.0) to make a self-extracting EXE. Unfortunately, that doesn't work either.I'm also unclear about how SP2 (or other service packs for that matter) go about the business of extracting themselves, then running the appropriate "setup.exe" to begin the installation - whether you've switched it to quiet mode or not. So, I'm a step away. I've got my firewall settings all modified, now I just want to repackage my modified SP2 to I can push the file to my clients. Any suggestions would be appreciated!-Bandana8472
