SP2 with enabled firewall slows down email sending

With XP SP2 enabling the built-in firewall causes about a 30 second delay when sending email. I tried Netscape Messanger, Eudora, and Outlook, all suffer from the same issue. Adding these programs to the exception list didn't help, neither did adding the default smtp port. Anyone else run into this or know of a workaround (other than disabling the firewall)?

Yes, disabling the firewall removes the delay with all the email clients I tested with. The email does go through, it just takes a long time when the firewall is enabled.
