Ar1Pe
Okay. I admit, I'm confused. So please explain stupid me;I see a lot of discussion about the builds of SP2: build 2180 is supposed to be final or RTM and so on.What does RTM stand for? What about those different builds? There has been now downloadable version for the IT professionals which is build 2158 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158).So what are those 2179/2180 for? Are they supposed to different?TIA
Jazkal
RTM = Released To Manufacturing (meaning it's done, and the OEM's get a copy first)Build 2180 is the final build for SP2.What you refer to as build 2158 is actually build 2180. The numbers 2158 are the time stamp of when the build was digitally signed. And yes, there is a difference between 2179 and 2180. 2179 was still beta. Vann
If your SP2 installation displays a version of Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 then it is the final build. You can see the actual build number by right-clicking on C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe and then clicking on the "Version" tab. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about. The machine is running SP1 with some hotfixes. So this machine is XP build 1151. On an SP2 machine this string would read "5.1.2600.2180"
