How to secure section of website?

I have a site I set up www.pebcac.net just for personal use. I have a link on there to a subfolder called football. It is on the left hand side. I want to set a generic user and password for this folder. I can give that to the people in my fantasy football league for them to access information. I don't want it open for anyone to view. How do I do this on a Win2k Server with IIS 5.0? Thank you.

1. Create a local user with password on your webserver

2. Modify the NTFS permissions on the files/folders you want to restrict access to so that only your created user has read access to it

3. When browsing to your protected file/folder, you visitors will be asked username & password

if you're not able to physically administer your server, ask your hosting provider to set the permissions....

I did this and it is not prompting for a username and password. It just denies access completely.

there are several ways to do this.

either use software that does this function, or setup an asp page with a database for username/password.

if you will make your own page, make sure the webserver supports asp pages.
