in C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\WMI a file named trace.log is started at 0 kb's at system start and gets biger and biger till it fills the drive. how do I stop it?

Have you run bootvis.exe by any chance?

If so, you should run it again and select "Stop Tracing" from the 'Trace' menu in bootvis.exe.

The first time it runs you turn logging on. After you reboot it analyzes trace.log. Then you run it again and turn logging off.

Bootvis is definitely the problem. A few months ago I noticed my hard drive space was being filled. I finally traced it to that file and disabled bootvis tracing.
