I am trying to get a program that can determine what files and reg settings have changed, somethign that I can log it before and after a program install, so I can determine what kind of things it has done. This would be great for getting down to how to remove spyware and for how to remove a program without an installer

http://www.epsilonsquared.com/ has a program called InstallWatch which should do what you want.

They also have a program called InstallRite for application cloning. I haven't used this because I don't like application cloning.

Another alternative would be REGMON from sysinternals.com. It's free (not implying InstallWatch isn't, I've not checked).

can InstallWatch save the registry changes as a reg file and the hdd changes as separate files or does it only list the changes?

Id agree with crofttk... REGMON is pretty good - although its more of an active monitoring system... ie while the application is running.

Cleensweep does this.. But I hate the program myself..
