2003 member server on a NT4 domain

Recommended Posts

Before you post your 2 cents about having a 2003 member server on a NT4 domain, let me say I KNOW!!! We are waiting on corp to move into AD and in the meantime, WE have to get new servers.

What we are noticing is that with the 2003 servers, the security is not being set correctly.

Folder A

|

|

+ SubFolder B

When setting permissions, our admin allows EVERYONE full SHARE access to the Folder A and restricts them using NTFS permissions on Folder and Subfolder B by using NT4 groups. The problem is that the 2003 server appears to ignore the security and allows the usrs to access the Subfolder B w/o reason. He hasn't quite explained the isue in more depth yet other than to mumble curses under his breath.

From what I know, 2003 has an updated NTFS for better security. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this issue in other places or are we just crazy?

:)

Sorry - no errors like yours (with a german Win Server 2003 Std. Ed.)

What i've made:

1. create a share on the new server (full access for everyone)

2. made restrictions with NT4 domain groups

3. test with a xp client

anything o.k.
