salguod Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 On my Win XP computer I went into the Folder Options, then File Types and changed the default behavior for folders to 'Explore' instead of 'Open'. My desire was to get the folder list on the left every time I browse a folder. Now, I get a new window every time I open a folder by clicking on it in the right hand main window of Windows Explorer. This is really annoying to say the least and not how it behaved prior to the change. If I click the folder in the folder tree I don't get a new window, it just displays the contents of the folder.I've gone back and set 'Open' as the default action and made sure that the 'Open each folder in the same window.' is selected but it still opens a new window. I've searched the Microsoft KB and this site and haven't found an answer. I'm sure that I'll have to get into the registry to fix it, but where and how? Any of you know how to fix this? Thanks,
Justice Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 You need to have the following options set:Browse Folder: Same folder window
Justice Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 And [Folder], NOT [File Folder], needs to have explore set as default:
salguod Posted May 15, 2004 Author Posted May 15, 2004 I had set Explore as default in both 'Folder' and 'File Folder', but I set it back in both places to default to 'Open'. I have it set for the 'same window' in that box but I still get a new wiondow each time.Do I need to remove 'Explore' as an action in 'File Folder'? How do I do that? It's greyed out in the 'Edit File Type' dialog.
Justice Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 My File Folder options look like this, but ignore Browse with ACDSee and Open Command Window Here.
