Artifacts when setting Explorer New icons

When I turn on Explorer->New Icons with Explorer style "Win10 Ribbon UI", it looks good until I reboot or restart explorer.exe, strange artifacts appear in the ribbon (see attached).  What am I doing wrong?  How do I get rid of them?

 

I am running W11 24H2 (26100.4061) in dark mode with SAB 3.9.10 (although it's been occurring since at least 3.6.x (maybe before?)).
