Does anyone know if it's possible within Windows 2000 to lock the machine like in Windows XP, where you have to relogin with a username and password to gain access to the desktop? Isn't the key combo Windows key+L or something like that? I'd appreciate the help! :)

The key combo in Win XP is indeed winkey+L. In Win 2000, use ctrl+alt+del to bring up the Security Window, this offers an option to lock the PC.
