Performance tweak not working

I have set my registry to turn on best performance settings. The radio button was in the corret option, and all the options were blanked out in the options below, but the display hadn't adjusted...

(certian other tweaks haven't worked either, but ill tackle those next)

OK, that I can definitely comment on.

This has been a trouble spot for alot of folks, myself included. I set it to 3 (custom) and it still comes back with everything enabled.

Don't want to mess with this stuff? I'm feeling generous. Here's my two registry tweak files - one for HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys and one for HKLM - you apply these two files during install, and I guarantee you your machine will be tweaked for speed. Plus I've commented most of the adjustments to make it easy to pick and choose.

Careful, though - some of the USER tweaks redirect some system folders into a user account's My Documents folder (I set one up called XPUser). Delete those or change them to suit the user you create and you'll be golden.

Hi All, thought I would add my 2p to the Visual Settings nightmare.

Heres what Ive found after trying various tweaks from all the posts here, using cmdlines.txt to add registry tweaks.

XP by default sets option 0 (i.e. Let Windows choose whats best for my computer) to the HKLM Visual Settings hive, in my case this meant all the visual eye candy was turned ON. This means that applying the HKCU Visual Settings only does not work. All it would do would be to just tick the boxes that you had specified, the HKLM settings would still be in effect.

So, to fully customize the Visual Settings the best option Ive found is to set the HKLM hive to custom with every setting turned off. You then apply the HKCU hive with custom and specify what options you want turned on (which then in turn applies to all users due to unattended).

The below code shows the HKLM hive settings set to off and the HKCU settings for "Show Shadows under mouse pointer" and "Smooth edges of screen fonts" only.
