Event viewer shows instead of Disk management or any other snap in

Time and time again after a fresh installation of either Windows XP Pro x64 or Windows XP Pro SP3, and usual after windows updates, none of the snap ins(anything ending .msc)work.

Clicking on any of them in admin tools just brings up event viewer.

This is a right pain..........

re doing the links to point to the right snap in is a waste of time because it just reverts back to event viewer again.

Anyone???
