Power Scheme (turn off monitor) crashes win-98

So I thought everything was ok with the Asrock motherboard and Nvidia 6200 AGP card using the v77.72 drivers, but I'm seeing that when I walk away from the computer, that when the Energy Saver scheme kicks in and turns off the monitor, the computer is effectively crashed and unresponsive.

A fresh install of win-98 has the default energy-saving setting to turn off the monitor after 15 minutes of inactivity. When that happens, nothing I can do will bring the computer back other than hitting the reset button. Keyboard is unresponsive (caps lock, num lock LED's don't respond either).

Anything known about this? Is there a fix?
