Guest wsxedcrfv Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 A win-98 user on usenet has posted this problem, looking for a reason or cause:========================Trying to shut down my Windows Explorer file manager by any means I know fails and results in this message:_________restrictions |--------------- |--------------------------------------------------------------------This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect onthis computer. Please contact your system administrator---------------------------------------------------------------------------------=======================There are some references to getting this message if running Office XP under win-98 (that isin't the case here).Web searches for that error message all seem to point back to this registry key:HKCU/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/POLICIES/EXPLORER/RestrictRunSupposedly, that error string is contained within explorer.exe.But if I understand this correctly, the "restrictrun" policy setting is used to PREVENT a user from running a given program, not to prevent the user from closing the program.Any ideas as to what can cause the above error when trying to close file explorer?
