Is it possible to associate a file type to a certain program via scrip

Hi

I forgot to manually associate .java file to automatically open in a program called textpad when they are double clicked in windows explorer. Is there a way to set this association via command line or script?. I have deployed my unattended on well over 250 pc's. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
