BSOD Registry_Error

We have about 200 PCs (varying models from the same maker, all with Windows XP (SP3)) that have recently started giving us BSODs with the Registry_Error as the cause. In the past three months this has happened on nearly 20 of the machines. The problem has not been confined to a specific model or age machine...it seems to be quite random.

The only commonalities on the machines are MS Office 2007 and Symantec AV (Enterprise edition).

When this happens we end up re-installing the OS and software. Sometimes this solves the problem, other times we have a mother board or drive failure shortly after the re-build. There just doesn't seem to be one thing we can point to as the cause.

A 20% fail rate seems a bit high...especially for an error that is described as "rare."

Does anyone know of any other issues or problems we might have overlooked that would cause the problem?
