XP client Autologon in 2008 domain

Featured Replies

Is it possible to use the autologon function on a client XP machine in a Win2008 domain?

After the client computer is joined in to the domain I can’t edit the AutoAdminLogon key and set it to 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AutoAdminLogon

Error: cannot edit AutoAdminLogon: Error writing the values new contents

I have checked the permission on the key and the domain admin has full control

Is there at default 2008 policy setting preventing autologon?

I have also tested TweakUI and Sysinternals autologon but I guess that they also need to edit the registry, so no success

The setup is as follows:

I have 2 client computers locked down in “kioskmode” so in case of failure the machine just needs to bee rebooted. I need them to autologon with at domain account.

I have done this in a 2003 domain but I can’t make it work in this 2008 domain

All suggestions are welcomed, and I do apologise for my bad English :blushing:
