coolsites100 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) I am trying to make a minimal sized XP install CD, and I was going through expanding all the WAVs in the I386 directory. There I found the Utopia sound scheme, which I thought was funny because it never copies over so it's pointless . I just wanted to know if it was safe to remove them since they are not used, or if there's a way to make it so they do copy over. Also, please tell me any other files that are safe to delete that you know of.Thanks in advance -coolsites100 Edited September 7, 2010 by coolsites100
Guest Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Microsoft programmers are a sloppy bunch. The Utopia wavs are referenced in DOSNET.INF, LAYOUT.INF, and TXTSETUP.SIF. There is no visible entry point to install the sound scheme but the installer is %windir%\inf\mmopt.inf.This does not specifically answer your question but at least you know the CD and Windows does "know" about those files.
coolsites100 Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Okay, so if Windows knows about them could I make use of them by making them install? I'm sure there's some entry to add to WINNT.SIF or some patch.
