sonic747 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 To cut a long story short my kids managed to delete quite a number of system 32 files which meant I couldn’t even boot the system up even in safe mode. My only solution was to put the XP disc in and run the repair programme. All is working fine now apart from the user profiles on the log in screen they have all gone, but they are there as they should be on the hard drive. My question is there another way of getting all the user names up on the log in screen apart from making up a new user name and copping everything across which seems a waste of time as the user profiles as far as I know are not corrupt. Also if I have to copy everything how bad will it interfere with my itunes file. Can anyone help cos the kids are driving me nuts wanting there music back………….
allen2 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 To fix this, the only way is to replace the files in c:\windows\system32\config\* with the older ones if you're sure they're still okay. But this cannot be done when running xp, you'll need to boot on something with access to those files and make the changes.
