Microsoft is shutting down it's usenet server

I thought I'd mention here that Microsoft is shutting down it's NNTP (usenet) server, and that a phased shutdown will start June 1 when newsgroups that it deems "low traffic" will be removed from it's server. This includes a number of windows-98 groups. The microsoft.public hierarchy of groups will probably continue to exist on the "world-wide" usenet for some time, as Microsoft will likely not issue rm-group or check-group control messages (not that many servers would honor them anyways).

Microsoft seems to be saying that it will re-engineer it's web-based support forums, and even offer NNTP access to them, and it will be interesting to see if win-9x/me will be part of those forums. I'm also wondering if June 1 will also be a deadline for the windows update server to end it's service for windows 98.
