I give up. It just doesn't want to get fixed in my computer. I don't know what else to do so Thanks for all the help. I'm probably going to update to Windows 7 next month so all should be well then. If I stay with XP, it may just be time to do a reinstall. On secondthought, XP has been very good. i think I'll stick with it It does everything I need. So thanks again.

I'd try removing all .NET related entries in the registry manually, making a back-up previously.

Yes, but you're modifying the registry, take care, first make a copy of the registry to able to restore changes, then look for .NET entries and start removing but do it with care, i.e. start with the obvious, if you have any doubt a regkey doesn't bellow to .NET, keep it for later removing if necessary. Once you finished, try again with .NET cleanup utility, and after that try installing again. If not achived anything, repeat removing less obvious regkeys.

I managed to solve a similar problem with .NET this way in the past.

FYI...I tried to print something for the 1st time since this problem started. Lexmark printing software said I needed .NET 2.0. So I put the printer installation disc in to see what would happen. It successfully installed .NET 2.0. So I then went to Windows Update, and it further updated .NET Framework. So, all is now well. .NET Framework is installed and my printer works. I have no idea why it would install this way not the others I've tried but it works.

Again. I want to thank everyone for their efforts. It's very comforting to know there are people like you out there to help when people like me end up backed into a corner computer wise.
