Dear customer service,

Issue: Easy File Transfer software for Microsoft XP/Vista does not work

We are encountering a problem while using the Easy Transfer USB Cable for the Windows XP-to-Vista data transfer.

On the above mentioned desk top, we are running Windows XP Home edition and our daughter has purchased a laptop (Acer) running Windows Vista and we want to transfer the data from the Medion desktop to the Acer Laptop. This is a tool available in Windows Vista but also works on XP.

We have purchased a dedicated Easy Transfer USB cable from Targus (ACC996EU).

When I first connected the cable to the Medion PC, it said ‘found new hardware; installing drivers’ (the USB cable contains an installation program on the connectors).

I have subsequently downloaded the Easy Transfer Software from Microsoft and installed it.

When I than try to run the program, and start the Easy Transfer software on the Vista Laptop, we are loosing the wireless network on the Medion PC. The Ralink2500GT Wireless WAN Card is no longer found and no way to get the wireless card starting again.

Also, one would normally see “both” PC’s in one screen (i.e. the “local host” and the “remote host”), but we do not see the “remote host” (i.e. we do not see the Medion PC).

When I start the Easy Transfer software on the Medion, it does not connect to the Acer Laptop, it says that I can now connect the USB cable to both PC’s but nothing happens than.

I have removed the Easy Transfer software, and managed to get the wireless card started again….

When I last connected the USB cable, the system went “death” with the BSOD…

It looks to me that we have somewhere a conflict in USB assignments.

Any idea why the Easy Transfer does not work on the MEdion PC and how I can get it working?

Many thanks in advance.
