einniv Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Well, OK, it must be getting it from somewhere and that is what I am here to find out. Quick background. I made an unattended install for my son's computer from my XP disc. Lets call him Steve Strong (though that isn't his real name). I integrated SP3 and IE7. It worked great. I lent out some discs I had to a friend which included my xp disc. He managed to lose them all. Luckily I still have the folder where I made my son's disc. I tested a disc made from that folder on Virtual PC. When it installed it asked me to create new users so I created one for myself but I saw that it also automatically set up a user Steve Strong. So, I got rid of that name from the previous ini files. Still a user Steve Strong and it never asks me during install to setup any other users. I went drastic and uninstalled and then reinstalled nlite. I also got rid of any .ini files and any.sif files (there were 2 winnt.sif and text-something-or-other??.sif). Still a user Steve Strong and it still doesn't ask me to setup any new users at install time. I did a windows search for any files containing the words "Steve Strong" and none turn up. So I can't figure out where it is coming from! Any ideas? I'm sure I've just done something stupid but the name isn't showing up anywhere in nlite (at the Users tab) so I don't know where it is coming from.
g-force Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Welcome @ MSFN-Forums!Talking about "some .ini-files" - I guess you worked with nLite. There`s a special forum HERE (maybe some Mod moves this topic). If you have once created an user with nLite on that XP working folder,it won`t be deleted in another "run-against-the-same-source" (see my signatur). If you`re unable to start with a fresh source, I would do the XP-Installwith that XPCD and delete User "Steve Strong" later.
einniv Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Well at least I know I'm not crazy now! I wonder where it stores this info.
g-force Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 It is stored in "I386\nlite.in_" - this file got to be expanded, try THIS to do it:http://www.german-winlite.de/wbb/index.php...12571#post12571You`ll find a key like this in it (this is from my own XPCD):HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce","nlite_post_11",0x00000000,"nhelper net1 user """"Nicole"""" /add /fullname:""Nicole"" /comment:""Nicole"""
einniv Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks a lot! Got it to expand. May be a couple days before I try a new build but that should hopefully do the trick.
einniv Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Thanks again. That worked for me. Used expand to make nlite.inf. Edited the user name out of the .inf and re compressed with makecab. Worked great.
