No repair install option

I have a neighbour's non booting HP XP Home laptop here. Have run memtest86+ and Hitachi's drive diagnostics on the HDD. Have CHKDSKed the drive and run an antivirus scan with the latest McAfee SDAT, didn't pick up any problems. Ran malware scans with MBAM, SAS, Spybot & A-Squared, picked up a bit of stuff. Was hanging at agp440.sys and wouldn't boot into safe mode, even in VGA mode. Disabled that driver but it hangs at the next driver in the list, if I disable the next driver the pattern repeats. Was going to do a repair install. Made a slipstreamed SP3 XP home disc with HP's OEM files as well as RyanVM's updates and OnePiece's WMP11 and IE7 addons. I386 doesn't contain winnt.sif or unattend.txt yet the install disc does not offer a repair install option, it sees the existing install and partition but only provides an option to overwrite. I'm pretty sure I've done repair installs with OEM discs before, any clues?
