I didn't see a Windows Home Server forum, but I thought that Vista might be closest.

My question: I want to build my own and from what I can see it is a OEM license only. I take that to mean that once installed on a computer that it cannot be moved to another machine if the original computer dies (motherboard), your license dies with it? I'd like to keep the server software and then transfer it to bigger and better machines down the road, but I assume that I'd have to buy it again?

Home server is built on Server 2003. Moving to appropriate forum. And to answer the question, yes, once an OEM-licensed product is installed on a machine, it's tied to that machine forever. You cannot legally move it to another machine and activate it there, you need a new copy. One of the many reasons OEM is cheaper than retail.

There's been several reports over on the Windows Home Server Forums regarding this issue and it appears that Microsoft is not having an issue (Lenient) with the reactivation. Some people have been going from OLD hardware (Testing) to NEW hardware without any problems reactivating by PHONE. Do a search on the forums for the info or ask there.

NOTE: According to the EULA you are supposed to only install on the same computer as the original install was done. However as I stated above Microsoft is allowing changes.
