how to replace sep. phys. D: drive which has My Docs & Settings?

I would like to replace my current D: PATA drive with a larger SATA. The D: drive is a separate physical drive than my C: (SATA) drive and the D: drive also contains "My Documents and Settings".

I am running winxp sp3 upgraded from an nlite SP2 slipstreamed unattended installation disk.

How should I go about doing this and not make a mess?

Can I: 1) install the new drive, 2) use Acronis to clone my current D: to the new and larger SATA drive, 3) shut down, unplug the old D: and restart? That would be too easy I'm sure...
