mattnduke Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 All of my sudden my work laptop won't boot up at all. It's a Dell Latitude with XP. It tries to boot, then goes into the blue screen of death. It won't boot in safe mode as I get a screen full of win/sys32/drivers/ lines. It then goes right back into the blue screen from there. The technical information is as follows-Technical Information:***STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, OXF76CC154, 0XF7AFF800, OXF7AFF4FC)*** Volsnap.sys - Address F76CC154 base at F76C4000, Datestamp 41107b6eI don't have any of the original disks that came with the laptop, as it is a hand me down from the previous person who had this position.Any help any one can give me is appreciated unbelievably!!!!
cluberti Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Without an XP disc so you can get to the recovery console and disable the volume snapshot service, you're pretty much up a creek if you can't boot into safe mode or last known good. Either you need to disable the service from the recovery console or a recovery disc, or you need to boot to last known good (and that may, or may not work - but you should try). Do you know if anything was changed/added/etc before it was last shut down, perchance?

I can't boot to last known good. When I try, it pops up with all the same win32/driver lines (which is the same thing that happens when I try and boot from safe mode) There isn't anything that has been added that I can think of. The only odd thing that's happened in the last few days is that my wireless keyboard stopped working. Both my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard run off the same USB plug in. My mouse works fine, but the keyboard does not work at all.

How do I disable volume snapshots?
cluberti Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 The recovery console is documented here. I would suggest using "help disable" to learn about how to disable services or drivers.
