Good evening, I recently downloaded a file from a 'dubious' source and managed to install a self-reprocating Trojan on my system - I know, I'm a dunce! The upshot is, I put the hard drive in an enclosure and scanned it,found the offending files and 'healed' them. Problem is, when I put the HDD back in the PC and booted up, the PC gets to the desktop, still showing my chosen wallpaper, but no icons or menu bar. I can use task manager to open .exe files and they appear to run with stability. However, I can not open Explorer or IE7 as Windows - they appear and then almost immediately vanish. Short of a 'format and install' of the HDD, does any body have a fix for this please? Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, if I were you I would backup your personal files and do a complete reformat and reinstall the system. In my experience trying to "fix" the aftermath of a mal-ware infestation is like chasing your tail, you may never get to the end of it.
