Vista Lexmark printer nightmare

I bought an Acer desktop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit already installed. It came with a free Lexmark x1270 all-in-one printer,scanner, copier allegedly Vista compatible. However, the installation disk was for XP not Vista. All my subsequent efforts have failed and I've tried everything. I've spent two years talking to Lexmark Tech support and reading forums where many others also have this problem. The following article says that Vista locked down XP driver remnants as part of their security, which made removal difficult requiring a microsoft technician. Does anyone have any help for me?

I have this same printer installed with no problems, I just downloaded the Vista drivers directly from the lexmark uk website, here is the link : http://www.downloaddelivery.com/downloads/cpd/cjr1200EN.exe
