Hello everyone,

I’ve been surfing the net for a few days now trying to resolve some issues I’m having creating a slipstreamed XP Pro-SP3 and hotfix disc. If I can manage to figure it out I’ll look at possibly adding other programs. Anyway my goal is to learn how to do this myself, and not rely too heavily on other programs. I have read dozens of threads on the subject from this forum and others. I’ve read tutorials as well, but most rely on nlite, RyanVM’s integrator, HFSLIP and a variety of add-on packs that others have created.

As stated I’ve read various tutorials and have been able to successfully slipstream the service packs and some hotfixes with the /integrate command in dos. I’ve tried nlite but I can’t get it to integrate several of the hotfixes, they are either not supported or they fail with an error message. I’m also a little leery of using add-on packs from all over the net to accomplish the goal. So I moved on to HFSLIP, which does an excellent job on most of the hotfixes, however after more than a dozen failed attempts with 1.7.8 I’m now trying a post here to see if I can get some advice. Those failures being that nothing in the HFGUIRUNONCE and HFSVCPACK_SW1 folders gets installed. The strange thing is the first time I ran it, it seemed to work perfectly when tested on VMware, but the second time I used it I got an error asking me to insert the modifyPE.exe to be placed in the HFTOOLS folder. So I downloaded it and placed it in the tools folder, ever since I’ve had the issues listed above and if I remove the modifyPE.exe the program won’t run. The only change I made was placing non renamed versions of the hotfixes in the HF folder.

So where I am now is hoping to get some advice for integrating the following manually. I realize that the /integrate wouldn’t work on some of these but it was the easiest way to get a list of the files I can’t get integrated.

I would truly appreciate any advice that anyone may have for manually integrating any of these.

Thank you,

U did not attach HFSLIP.LOG for review, so unable to see what went wrong.

Anyway,have u place all these programs/hot fix as recommended in HFSLIP?

If u are using HFSlip & still face problem, may I suggest u post your problem in HFSlip forum.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't post the HFSLIP.LOG because as I said I gave up on hfslip and would like to do this manually. Which is why I didn't the question in the HFSLIP forum.

However, to answer you question I placed the files according to the dialogue at the beginning of HFSLIP and tommyp's Windows XP list.

I have also attached my HFSLIP.LOG, now HFSLIP.txt. It was my last attempt, however as stated I tried more than a dozen variations. All of which reported no errors but none of them installed the contents of the HFGUIRUNONCE and HFSVCPACK_SW1 folders when tested with VMware.

Of the files that fail /integrate only some of them are listed on the HSFLIP site, the others I had to guess where to put them:

directx_nov2008_redist.exe -->> HF

IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe -->> HF

rootsupd.exe -->> HF

windows-kb890830-v2.5.exe -->> HF

windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe -->> HF

WindowsXP-KB956803-x86-ENU.exe -->> HF

WindowsXP-KB957097-x86-ENU.exe -->> HF

msxml2sp6-kb887606-x86-enu.exe

WindowsXP-KB922120-v5-x86-ENU.exe

From your HFSlip log, these (a quick look) might be problems contributing failed intergration:

WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Main SP3 file 316.4 MB) is missing in your logfile

WindowsXP-KB922120-v5-x86-ENU.exe-> sp2 only (try to exclude SP2-only hotfix)

WindowsXP-KB952206-x86-FRA.exe -> U use French version to intergrate? Not sure that will work or might cause problem

WindowsRightsManagementServicesSP2-KB917275-Client-ENU-x86.exe -> SP2 only (try to exclude SP2-only hotfix)

WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-enu.exe --> Take a look here

Windows Defenders

For the rest, suggest u go to HFslip forum and see whether other members can advice.

Frankly, I don't see why u need to manually integrate them as sometime manually intergrate so many hotfixs may yield unexpected results. HFSLIP is meant to address all these potential issues.

Another important thing: Use only clean source.

== added==

WindowsXP-KB922120-v5-x86-ENU.exe is for Sp2. If u slipstream Sp3 (KB936929), I think u do not need KB922120, assuming it has been fix with Sp3. Like I said, those hotfixes that are meant for SP2 should be avoid first since these are expected to resolve in SP3. Then see how it goes...

Thanks for the response,

I got most of my update list from RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP3 Update Pack. For example KB922120 is 5th from the top on his list and KB917275 is fourth from the top. KB952206 is also from his list but is only available in French, no other version exist. So now I'm really confused, not sure which files are post SP3 now.

Thanks for the links for the other 2, I'll take a look and see what I can figure out. Although as I stated before I'd prefer a manual solution so I can learn. Using addons that others have made doesn't really help me learn how to do this stuff. If anyone would like to share the methods used for creating the addons I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks,

ss3

Edit: KB22120 is also listed at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120 as a SP3 update.

I just started watching the youtube video for this, and it seems like exactly what I wanted to know. I'm hoping that the download versions are a bit higher quality because I can't really make a lot of it out.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
