IE7 and AUS Problems

Last week I had a virus attack, which has since been cleaned up. However it did leave me with two problems, apparently due to damage caused by the infection. First, my IE7 cannot remember that I logged in on most forums. In one, I even have to log in again, every time I go to a new page, or refresh using F5! In other words, my browser does not always store login data (name and password) on some websites. Also the Automatic Update System (AUS) seems to be broken. I am running Windows XP Professional.
