amoda123 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 (edited) I am trying to install windows 64 bit operating systems using a new server MB. After the XP files are copied in the installation process the computer is rebooted and when windows try to start to complete the installation process I get an error “ machine _check _exception. I have tries many times but I get the same message. Currently I am using XP 32bit and it installs and runs fine. Can anyone please suggest some possible solutions?Current ConfigAsus DSEB-DG Server boardIntel Dual 771 Xeon Processors 5080 (3.73GB 4mb Cache)Memory (pc 5300 2GB)1 WD raptor sata drive Edited December 26, 2008 by amoda123
cluberti Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Machine_Check_Exceptions do mean something - the hardware encountered an error it couldn't "fix" - knowing what the contents of the MCE error would be great, if you can get it. Sounds like the 32bit subsystem isn't stressing something that the x64 system is, causing the x86 install to run fine (the only thing I could think of would be the extra 32 processor registers that the x64 install would access that the x86 would not, unless you've got more than 4GB of RAM accessing which would be the other "x64-only" feature).
