Removing Customize Links.lnk from Internet Explorer 7 for default user

arjay!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

In IE7 in the links bar,

Cant seem to work out how to remove the 'customize links.lnk'

It gets created for every new user, i would like a way to remove this (silently,from commandline) but it is not in allusers or defaultusers favourites but still seems to get created for every new user,

Any ideas ?

Cheers guys,

The links get created for users when they log in the first time via the STUBPATH:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components

Look for the one the key with data that says "Browser Customizations".

The StubPath in that key gets run every time a new user logs in - regardless of what customizations you have made to default user Favorites and Links. You can remove the entry from StubPath and the customizations (annoying Microsoft Links) won't get created

It's best to backup the registry key first in case you ever want to put it back.

Hope that helps - it took me forever to figure out where these were geting set.

As a side note - if you have custom branding you have created with IEAK you can use this stub path to ensure that custom branding happens every time a new user logs in.

Absolute Champion...Love your work. ^_^

There Is nothing worse than seeing this all over your users IE and not having a clue or any information what so ever about how this gets created or how to remove it..

Removing the Key does the trick.

Thanks mate.

Just like to supplement some more info here

On XP, the key is located at

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\>{60B49E34-C7CC-11D0-8953-00A0C90347FF}MICROS]

@="Browser Customizations"

"StubPath"="RunDLL32 IEDKCS32.DLL,BrandIE4 SIGNUP"

A lookup for BrandIE4 SIGNUP syntax is at here

So, maybe this can be disable at the unattended.txt

[branding]

BrandIEUsingUnattended = No
