Network Printing with 2008

Hi all,

We have installed 5 sites with 2008. On each site we have migrated from an exisitng 2003 to a new 2008 box and had problems with network printers - specifically HP 2600n series and 1020n series.

Installing the HP software has crashed the server, or when printing to the printer crashes the spooler service. The printers are installed as network printers and not installed locally - we manage printers via a login script.

I gather that this is a result of the printers being host based drivers and as such are relying on the server to do the print processing - as you would with a print server...

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is this a known problem?
