"Unattended Configuration"

I'm new to the forum. I'm in search of information not so much about unattended installs (which I may eventually want to know how to do) but about being able to start with any WinXP configuration and install multiple programs (with specific configurations) and make multiple changes to the Win XP configuration, in a way that is as automatic as possible. Anyone got any suggestions as to where I should start?
