bazzell Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Hi gang,I have an issue with a very slow network. What it is configured like follows:Server 2003 DomainXP Pro workstationsBell ModemD-Link Router set to DHCPNetgear SwitchUsers connect and it may take up to 1 hour before they have access to the shared folders. All users have been given full access to all folders yet they still get prompted for their name and password. There are times when they cannot even log onto the network. It say domain not found.I have changed serversI have changed switchesThe only thing left is the d-link router or the new cabling done. I am going to set up a laptop directly to the switch to see if it is the wiring. BTW: The server is connected directly to the router not the switch. The router is the gateway and the DHCP ....Any thoughts as where to go to get this systems back to normal speed..... Richie_OLSJ Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I would set the Server to dish out DHCPMake sure that the clients are receiving DNS from the server (and that the clients are given the server's DNS IP address)I would also connect the router to the switch NOT the serverThe clients should be given the router IP address as their default gatewayIt doesn't sound like a cabling issue either
