dlsayremn
Thanks to whomever posted this solution. I sure I saw it here, but couldn't find the post again to give you credit. EquipmentGateway Essential 667 Windows 98SE using USRobotics 805422 USB Wireless AdaptorActiontec GT-701WG hooked by Ethernet toCompaq SR2180NX Vista Home Premium SP1 with shared HP PSC 1410v (61.53.25.9)Printer name on Compaq1 is "HP PSC 1400 series". HP choice, you may be able to change it.Networked Vista and XP machines can use the shared printer.Basic ProblemIn Network Neighborhodd the 98SE can see the Public Folder, but not the Printer on the Compaq. side note:I have not been able open the folder yet. Gave up after waiting about 1 1/2 hours for it to open.Using information picked up from MSFN Forums, this is how I got the 98SE to print to the shared HP PSC.Turn off the Vista computer and disconnect the printer. The printer MUST BE CONNECTED to the 98SE for the last part of the printer installation or it will fail.Install the HP PSC1410v on the 98SE. While the printer is stilled connected to the 98SE, left click Start, Settings, Printers, right click on HP PSC 1400 and left click Properties. Click the "Details" tab."Print to followig port" selection will need to be changed. Click Add Port. In the popup, check Network. In the box under 'Specify the network path to the printer' type the path to the printer.. In this case it was" \\Compag1\HP PSC 1400series". Then click OK.Do not change "Print to the following driver".Click "Spool Settings" tab. see that "Spool print jobs so program finishes faster" and "Start printing when 1st page isspooled" are selected. Set "Spool data format" to RAW, if not already. (If NFT is selected, the printer locks up.) Click OK, Click OK and close the Printers Folder.Do Not Share the printer.Turn off the 98SE and disconnect the printer. Hook the printer back up to the Vista and turn both on.Turn the 98SE on and print something. The printer will not show up in Device Manager, but will appear in System Information under Printer. The rest of this is just the Network and Sharing settings and Printer settings for both machines.SETTINGS FOR 98SENetworkConfigurationClient for Microsoft Networks No logon validation Logon and restore network connection checkedFile and Printer Sharing for Microsoft NetworksTCP/IP - US Robotics Wireless USB Adaptor Obtain IP address automatically Gateway 192.168.0.1 Use DHCP for WINS resolution DNS Configuration Disabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP Enabled Bindings CfMN and F&P Sharing Advanced Binding to ATM NOUSRobotics Wireless USB Adaptor Enhanced Mode (32bit & 16 bit) NDIS Binding TCP/IP - USRobotics Wireless Adaptor Advanced settings are defaultIdentification Gateway98SE Workgroup LGatewaypcAccess Control Share level access controlPrinter Default printer settingsexcept forAdded Port Network - Path to printerSpool Data Control RAW not NFTDo not share printerSystem Information - Components - PrintingDefault printer \\Compaq1\HP PSC 1400 seriesUnidriver(UNIDVR.DLL) Not InstalledGendrv (GENDRV.DLL) Not InsatlledHP PSC 1400 series hpz9xd12, 2.335.0, 3/8/2005, 146672 bytes \\Conpaq1\HP PSC 1400 seriesSETTINGS FOR VISTAIdentification Compag1 WorkgroupNetwork and Sharing CenterNetwork(Private network)Access Local and InternetConnection Local Area ConnectionSharing and DiscoveryFile sharing OnPublic folder sharing On Anyone Read OnlyPrinter Sharing OnPassword protecteced sharing OffMedia sharing OffShow all network folders on this computer.PublicHP PSC 1400 seriesPrintersLocal Area Connection Status:IPv4 Conecctivity InternetIPv6 Connectivity LimitedMedia State EnabledDuration ??:??:??Speed 100.0 MbpsDetails Intel Pro/100 Ve Physical Adress ??-??-??-??-??-??DHCP Enabled YesIPv4 Address 192.168.0.6Ipv4 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0Lease Obtained Date/TimeLease Expires 24 hours laterIPv4 Default Gatewya 192.168.0.1IPv4 DHCP Server 192.168.0.1IPv4 DNS Servers 192.168.0.1 205.171.3.65IPv4 WINS ServerNetBIOS over Tcpip Enabled YesLink-local IPv6 Address ????:????:????:????:??????IPv6 DEfault GatewayIPv6 DNS SErverPropertiesClient for Microsoft NetworksQoS Packet SchedulerFile and Printer Sharinf for Microsoft NetworksInternet Protocal Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)Internet Protocal Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O DriveLink-Layer Topology Discovery ResponderClient for Microsoft Networks RPC Service NoneTCP/IPv4 PropertiesGeneral Obtain IP address automatically Obtain DNS Server address automaticallyAlternate Configeration Automatic Private IP addressAdvancedIP Settings IP addresses DHCP Enabled Default gateways Automatic metric XDNS Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes Append Parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix Register this connection's addresses in DNS registrationWINs Enable LMHOSTS lookup NetBIOS setting DefaultTCP/IPv6 PropertiesGeneral Obtain IP address automatically Obtain DNS Server address automaticallyAdvancedIP Settings IP addresses Automatic configuration only Default gateways Automatic metric XDNS Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes Append Parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix Register this connection's addresses in DNS registrationPinter SetupSharing Share this printer X Share name HP PSC 1400 series Additional Drivers x86 Type 3 - User Mode Installed YesSecurity Everyone Print, Manage printers, Manage documentsPorts USB001, Virtual print port for USB, HP PSC 1400 seriesAdvanced Always availiable Priority 1 Spool print documents so program finishes printing Start printing immediately Print spooled documents first Enable advanced printing features Edited June 8, 2008 by dlsayremn
