CPeanutG Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I am cross-posting this in a couple places, if I get it fixed elsewhere I will post the fix here.Fresh install of Windows XP + SP3 + Updates and etc. (Full list on request).Latest Xfire (1.92) was installed onto my system during OS install. Steam wasn't. XP has SP3 integrated as well as all of the updates untill May, and many more.Xfire starts but it hangs and then crashes with only an "Xfire Exception" window. Exception text is here: http://www.peany.net/files/XfireException.xml It does this even after I uninstall and reinstall Xfire. It starts, shows the new user dialog and then exits. I quickly close the new user dialog and it shows the Searching for Games progress bar with 0% filled. Then it crashes.Same thing happens with Steam aswell. But Steam loads fine, logs me into Friends etc. It crashes with no error when i hit "next" on the Steam Update news window and when i click on the Community tab in the main window.
CPeanutG Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) Actually, fixed it on my own, reinstalled IE7 by redownloading it from microsoft.com and it fixed itself. I think SP3 comes with IE7, stupid me.Side question: Why does Xfire rely in IE. I know Steam uses IE's engine for its store and community pages etc. But what does Xfire use it for right away, when the progress bar shows "searching for games"? Edited May 24, 2008 by CPeanutG
philla88 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I don't know about those specific occasions but I believe xfire uses IE for the ads it displaysphill.
