"System Settings Change" spoiling Unattened

Hi All, this is my first post after just joining.

I want to design a 98se rollout to most computers for a high school. I surfed and read what I can find googling. But not much shows up for this particular block.

My test computer is a Compaq DeskproEN P733 which requires Intel chipset drivers for Win98. Other chipset drivers install without a hitch, like on my Thinkpad R40 laptop. I am using MSBATCH to successfully install plain Win98SE unattended. I want to install chipset drivers as my first choice.

Specifically I am installing the INFInstal Utility which comes in zip or exe, and although they have vague instructions for unattended, it does not result in unattended all the way. Using Widows INFInstaller to manually install the specific INFS and CABS does not produce the full install from the exe auto-setup file. I can only install the next driver, Intel's Application Accelerator only after a successful INF Utility install.

Sticking with the exe version, everything installs silently using the -s switch. After rebooting, Win98 opens to installing the new drivers and end with this dialog box:

[system Settings Change]

(?) To finish setting up your new hardware, you must restart your

computer.

Do you want to restart your computer now?

[[Yes]] [No]

This particularly problematic because Windows did not load yet --it is just this dialog box and nothing more. After clicking, it reboots to desktop fine.

I tried a few workarounds but nothing worked like

dos-batching and autoexec.bat that generates a win.bat --to run "win.com [a dos command line process killer].

looking into key scripting programs (but I don't think running any windows program will work thinking they will load AFTER this dialog box is answered.

I found out that this dialog box can be generated by using the RunDLL.exe shell.dll,RestartDialog (can be run from commandline.) (Process Killer does work on regular loaded desktop.) I have even automated renaming RunDLL.exe & RunDLL32.exe but this did not stop this dialog box from appearing.

...and a few other troubleshooting efforts. Can anybody help me out please? --Bill
