Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 - keeping i386 directory updated

In the past (NT4/2000) I would copy i386 directory from install CDs to my system and keep it updated by copying i386 directory from service packs into the i386 directory on my system. The purpose was to not have to use the install CD when installing OS functions at a latter time.

I am trying to do the same with Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 and Service Pack 2. I have copied the i386 dir from install disk 1 to my system. I am not sure if there are files on disk 2 which I should copy, I don't see any i386 dir there. Also in SP2 there is no i386 dir but it installs from amd64 directory. Is it correct to copy the contents of the amd64 directory into the i386 directory on my system? (I didn't see any files named the same - but did not look real careful - way too many files) Or should I be doing this a different way now - maybe in a network share?

TIA.
