Convert student license to OEM?

During my studies I´ve used an academic alliance aquired license (windows xp). But soon I will use my computer outside the academic world and thus have to change the license key.

The problem is that I don´t want to reinstall my entire laptop. Is there a way to alter the typ of license from student to a OEM key?

You probably need to contact Microsoft. You CAN do an upgrade in place and input the new key, this loses some of the customization on the system itself, but usually leaves the installed applications intact. You'll probably need an upgrade version of XP, they currently get about $160 for the Pro upgrade around here, but check with MS.
