Vista DVD-RW problem

Hello all. For some time I have a small problem with my dvd-rw device. Whenever I want to write or try to explore a blank DVD or cd i receive the following message: "Make sure that the disc uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it." I've tried with a big number of DVD types and brands. What can I do? Thanks
